2023 Summer Season
Water Wanderings is entering its seventh summer and we are excited to offer four camps this season!

|
- Campers of all identities and backgrounds are encouraged to participate.
- Canoeing and remote camping experience is not necessary, but comfort around water is important as we will be canoeing and swimming nearly every day.
- All food and group gear is provided, including tents, canoes, tarps, cooking equipment, maps, and journals.
- Campers sleep in tents at a campsite on the Green River Reservoir, which we canoe to as a group.
- We use tarps for shelter in shared spaces and get to enjoy a week of living outdoors with no running water, electricity, or permanent structures aside from a moldering toilet (a waterless toilet that composts human waste) on a raised platform.
- Throughout the week, we paddle, hike, swim, play and learn together, exploring the reservoir and our individual and collective stories about environmental justice, equity and inclusion.
Family Camp
Ever wanted to take your family camping, but got overwhelmed by all the logistics? Family Camp is an opportunity for people of any age to enjoy participating in Water Wanderings. We especially encourage families, however you define yours, to attend and cherish the experience of spending uninterrupted time outdoors with those you love and other families. Water Wanderings provides all the gear, food, and other supplies, so all you need to do is show up with your personal belongings. Family Camps are a great fit for younger camper(s) attending with an adult. Children under two years old who register with two adults attend free of charge.
Water Wanderings' Commitment
Exploring wild places and cultivating a relationship with the Earth and other people away from the distraction of media should be a right, not a privilege. All too often though, environmental education programs, especially overnight camps, are prohibitively expensive. Our generous sliding scale price range is designed to meet the needs of camper's families by charging all families a similar percentage of their income. This helps to ensure that the cost of attending Water Wanderings does not put a disproportionate burden on families with limited financial means and values the many ways that campers and their families can contribute to Water Wanderings such as increasing outreach, enriching the cultural diversity of the program, and bartering goods or services.
We believe meaningful adventures and learning outdoors are a human right and that all campers benefit from socioeconomic diversity in Water Wanderings camps. We could not offer our sliding scale without support from donors, sponsors and volunteers, as well as high income families, whose tuition helps to balance out our revenue and insure we can make ends meet. Our high camper-counselor ratio, unique curriculum, experienced staff, commitment to sourcing from small businesses and farmers, and small group size makes the full cost of Water Wanderings camps on the higher end.*
We are committed to ensuring that our campers come from socioeconomically diverse backgrounds and low income families are not deterred by a high sticker price. For Water Wanderings to be financially sustainable, we need everyone to contribute their fare share. Thank you for participating honestly and contributing what you can so that all campers, counselors and Water Wanderings as a whole can thrive. If the sliding scale does not meet your family's needs, you are welcome to apply for financial aid, no matter where you fall on the sliding scale.
*The actual cost of a Water Wanderings session is $1,000 per camper, and our scholarship fund supplements camper registration fees for campers who pay less than this amount and/or who request financial aid beyond the sliding scale. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to support the scholarship fund, please visit our Support Us page.
