  • Strengthen campers’ confidence and skills in canoeing, swimming, camp cooking and managing the everyday responsibilities of outdoor living
  • Deepen campers’ personal identity awareness, relationship with the earth, and understanding of equity, justice and inclusion in human and non-human communities.
  • Nourish resilience and integrity through a growing base of alumni.

Work Crews

​Crews are a core aspect of our curriculum. Campers rotate through crews so that each camper gets to work with other campers on  specific tasks that support the group.

Instructor Methods 

  • Facilitated dialogue – introduce a topic and guide campers through group dialogue, drawing on counselor knowledge-base to add nuance and depth to the conversation.  
  • ​ Skill demonstrations - model safe and effective use of tools, and other outdoor skills such as paddling and fire building, then coach campers through practicing on their own. 
  •  Storytelling - read and/or tell stories that speak to Water Wanderings themes and facilitate dialogue about what they bring up for campers
  •  Games - designed to encourage collaborative problem solving, build relationships, and bring levity and fun to the group.
